  4. America, in my opinion, is the land where everyone has an opportunity to succeed with an investment of hard work. In addition, America is a mixture of varying cultures coming from different parts of the world. These two ideas, opportunity and diversity, clearly define America.

  5. America is probably known by others to be defined by our government and their decision they have made along with how their relationship is with the people. Some people believe that trust and respect play a major role in it but that's just an opinion. The people are the ones who truly define America.

  6. I think what defines America is our belief in one another. We are always putting our trust in our politicians as well as the voters, but when that trust is lost is when our nation starts to have problems. With trust and believing in others our nation is able to achieve whatever we'd like.

  7. The ideals on which America was founded define our country today. The trust given to the governors by the governed allows for the people of our country to express themselves freely and do what they wish within the constraints of the law.

  8. America, to me, is truly defined by values like democracy and other basic rights and opportunities given to all citizens. Similarly to the John Updike passage about trust, I believe that the connection between the government and the people holds the country together.

  9. I truly believe that America can be defined in two words, "melting pot". A melting pot is a place where different peoples, styles, theories, etc., are mixed together. America's amount of vast, contradicting cultures, is what truly makes it a unique place.

  11. As Updike stated, America is about the individual, yet, contrary to his belief, this individualistic mentality doesn't lead to a "productively competitive" environment but instead leads to creating deceitful people who move up in the world by cheating out others. The American system used to be the land of dreams, where a hard days work lead to success, but the evolution America has lead to a new era. In this new era what defines America is that it's a place where cheating pays off if one puts on the right face to the public. There is too much division in America at the moment, and it is my hope that we can eventually become more of a community based country.

  12. I believe America is defined by the freedom it gives to the American people. Americans have the power to choose what they want to do, where they want to live, what they want to say, and what religion they want to practice. America is also defined by its democratic government, which allows Americans to have a large say in how their country is run and to change something to make it a better place to live.

  14. America is the land of opportunities where so many doors are opened for those who seek them. The leaders of our government are to be trusted because they are responsible of maintaining a well-balanced nation where "buoyancy, good nature and mutual tolerance" is implied. I considered America to be a "paradise" because of it's abundance, security & respect.
